Frontier Restaurant, Pandering, Children, and Men
You may wonder what the Frontier Restaurant in New Mexico, pandering, children, and men have to do with one another, so let me explain.
The Frontier Restaurant has been serving Albuquerque residents since 1971. Since it is located across from the University of New Mexico and because it serves good food at a reasonable price, needless to say it is a hangout for many college students.
My wife and I were having breakfast in the Frontier Restaurant on Central Restaurant. And sitting in a booth next to us was a student talking about politics and the past election. Perhaps I should say trying to talk about the subject. This individual was totally incapable of vocalizing a coherent thought to his young female companion. “Well, I mean it’s like, well you know, it’s the…I mean the system. Well, like, you know, it’s all about like what the people want instead of the ..you know,.. system that we are, like…stuck with.” After a while I began to understand that he was trying to explain his discontent with the Electoral College and the popular vote. My wife knows how much I hate what is happening to our educational system and instead of talking to my wife about her interest, she could tell I was ease dropping and counting how may pronouns, likes, and “you knows”, this gentleman used in a sentence.
So what does this have to do with pandering and children? Well, a panderer is someone a person who caters to or profits from the weaknesses or vices of others. Parents have a primal weakness for their children. They are protective to a fault and will do anything to provide what they believe is best for them. So panderers take advantage of this appeal to their emotions “do it for the sake of the children” to forego debate on what the real issues are. In this case, the issue is fundamental education in oral communication and English grammar. We should expect colleges today to be producing students with a higher education that that of the 1780’s. Can you imagine the student above comprehending the Federalist Papers?
Political rhetoric of late continues to say we need more money for our schools. Schools need more money for better equipment, higher salaries, and smaller classrooms. What one needs are higher standards and expectations of our parents, children, and teachers. Men need to listen to their children and ensure that they are able to communicate and understand the world around them. If they do not speak coherently, they need to correct them and go to the school and find out why they are not educating their children. Don’t avoid the debate. Spending $11 M dollars on a high school football stadium or funds for indoor swimming pools may not be the best uses of education money when our children cannot form…you know… I mean… like… a sentence. The inability to communicate is detrimental to your child’s future.
You can’t mean what you say, if you can’t say it… that’s Cowboy Logic.
